NoVA state senators give motorists the shaft

Steamed about the rising cost of gasoline and the lack of sufficient highway capacity in Northern Virginia, which your previous taxes were supposed to have paid for? Here’s where to send the thank-you notes for:

Voting FOR a bill to raise the gas tax six more cents, as if the current pump prices were not high enough:

             Sen. George Barker, D-Alexandria

             Sen. Chuck Colgan, D-Manassas

             Sen. Mark Herring, D-Leesburg

             Sen. Janet Howell, D-Reston

             Sen. Chap Petersen, D-Fairfax

Sen. Linda “Toddy” Puller, D-Mt. Vernon

             Sen. Patsy Ticer, D-Alexandria

Sen. Dick Saslaw, D-Springfield (he patroned SB 6009) and

             Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple, D-Arlington

These three also made it to the Losers’ Circle by also voting AGAINST a bill (SB 6005) introduced by Sen. Ken Cuccinelli, R-Centreville, that would have required all future oil and gas royalties from offshore drilling (if and when Congress gets off its butt and actually allows it) to be used exclusively to fund transportation in the commonwealth:

Sen. Ticer, chairman of the Senate committe that killed the bill on an 8-5 vote

          Sen. Petersen

          Sen. Whipple

Thanks for doing worse than nothing by voting for a “transportation solution” that sticks it to Northern Virginia drivers one more time.
