Boudreau, Sacco trade barbs over hit

Caps coach Bruce Boudreau finds himself in a war of words after he blasted Colorado Avalanche enforcer David Koci last week. The 6-foot-6, 238-pound Koci unleashed a hit from behind on Caps defenseman Mike Green during last Tuesday’s game in Colorado. Green left the game woozy and with a nasty black eye. Koci was ejected.

“The guy’s got one goal in six years. He couldn’t play in the American League,” a steamed Boudreau said after that game.

Koci wasn’t suspended for the hit and Colorado coach Joe Sacco — himself a former Caps player — finally shot back on Monday in an interview with the Denver Post. Sadly, the two teams don’t play again this season. That would have been interesting.

“Bruce should just worry about his own players,” Sacco said. “That’s what I try to do — worry about my own guys. David goes out there and plays hard, and David’s never been suspended.”
