Russell Crowe has been in our city — filming “State of Play” — long enough to realize sometimes it’s easier to get around on two wheels than on four.

The star was spotted riding his bike from his temporary home at the Georgetown Ritz-Carlton to the Mellon Auditorium on Wednesday morning, where he and co-stars Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams were filming a scene.

Not that he was alone — his two bodyguards were seen biking alongside him.

In other celebrity news, the Washington Nationals have announced that “American Idol” finalist Elliot Yamin will sing “God Bless America” during the seventh inning stretch at Sunday’s Major League opener at Nationals Park. Washington native and opera star Denyce Graves will sing the national anthem, and Mayor Adrian Fenty will start the game by declaring “Washington … Let’s Play Ball.”

Dennis Quaid is in Crystal City today to make remarks to the 2008 Annual Health Journalism Conference. Quaid’s twins were recently the victims of a medical error.
