For Roth, this is just like paradise

David Roth made a decision last week: He would quit his job so he wouldn’t miss what he did last year.

“I’m sure he’ll agree it was worth the trip,” his son, Michael, told reporters Tuesday night.

Yes, he probably would. Last year, Roth missed watching his son and the rest of the South Carolina baseball team win the College World Series in Nebraska. He couldn’t get time off from work. To avoid that again, he quit his job as a car salesman in South Carolina.

And the Gamecocks repeated their feat with a win over Florida on Tuesday night. Even better for David Roth: His son was the pitching star. The junior lefty allowed just two runs in 72Ú3 innings (he went 14-3 this season and was drafted in the 31st round by the Cleveland Indians). And his CWS ERA of 1.17 in 382Ú3 innings is the second best among pitchers with at least 30 innings.

We’re guessing David Roth won’t have a problem landing another job when he returns.
