Outfielder heating up, even though team is not
Nothing is redeeming about a long losing streak.
Entering last night’s game against Philadelphia, the Nationals had lost 11 in a row, a stretch of futility unmatched since the team’s move to D.C.

But while looking for hope isn’t easy, there has been at least one positive development: the play of outfielder Lastings Milledge.
During the 11-game losing streak, Milledge batted .349 with three doubles, a home run and four RBI. He also stole three bases without being caught.
“I’ve been struggling all year to put together good at-bats,” Milledge said. “Now I’m getting back to the player I know I can be and the player they got in the trade.”
Part of the reason is a more patient approach. Milledge’s on-base percentage has risen from .300 to .323. Of course, that patience is relative. Milledge is one of the game’s most aggressive batters. But he did walk three times during last week’s six-game homestand.
