Based out of what is arguably America’s most violent city, Chicago, a group called Violence Interrupters is making some progress chiseling away at the inner-city death toll in some major American cities.

Seeking to address the root causes of escalating homicide rates, Violence Interrupters intervenes, often at great risk, in gang-related conflict, urging young men to calm inflamed passions before shots are fired.

The Washington Examiner’s Doug McKelway talks with the executive director of Violence Interrupters, Tio Hardiman, about its intervention techniques as well as the successes and obstacles it faces in a year of record-breaking homicide rates in America’s inner cities.
