For Navy, no more great unknown

With its sixth win, a 76-35 victory last week at East Carolina, Navy became bowl eligible in a big way. Unlike conference schools that accept bids after their regular seasons are complete, service academies Army and Navy contract for specific bowl games in advance.

This year, Navy is headed to the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, and it’s almost certain, according to the San Diego Union Tribune, that the Mids’ opponent will be San Diego State (7-2), regardless of what the Aztecs do in their final three games.

The Poinsettia is slotted for the third-place team in the Mountain West Conference. But even if San Diego State were to upset TCU or Utah, they likely would stay at home. According to the Union Tribune, bowl representatives have loose agreements in place that ensure that happens.
