UNA trustees approve construction bid

FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) — The University of North Alabama Board of Trustees has approved a $39.7 million construction build for a new science and technology building.

University President William Cale estimates the project’s total cost could be about $40.3 million. The winning bidder was B.L. Harbert International, a Birmingham-based design and construction company.

The school has already secured $31.7 million for the project through bonds and grants and Cale says additional money can be allocated from the university’s capital reserve funds or through borrowing.

Cale says the 50-year-old Floyd Science Building is out of date and opening a state of the art facility will give students more and better educational opportunities.

A groundbreaking is set for May 6.
