In light of news from the NFL that it will look into teams “revealing their draft picks on their Web sites and through Twitter even before commissioner Roger Goodell might have announced the selections,” here are ten sports Twitter accounts we’d like to see.
1. Redskins quarterback pursuits. “Vinny Cerrato says Skins targeting Sam Bradford.”
Might as well start this one as soon as possible.

2. Nationals farm team signings. “The Nationals announce they have failed to come to terms on a contract with Stephen Strasburg.”
Washington could put this out before or after they select Strasburg with the first pick on June 9, even though the signing deadline isn’t until August.
3. Capitals injuries. “Alexander Ovechkin is expected to miss three games due to a right hamstring strain suffered in practice.”
That’ll help explain the Russian’s absence in February — but the tweet won’t happen until July. (This didn’t actually happen. We’re just saying.)
4. NBA Draft Lottery winner. “The New York Knicks have won the 2009 NBA Draft Lottery, and will make the first selection in the draft on June 25.”
It’ll make headlines on May 19, the night before the lottery itself. It also, ahem, won’t be the first time.
5. Wizards draft plans. “The Washington Wizards are exploring offers with multiple teams for their first-round pick in the 2009 draft.”
Set for release right before the NBA makes its announcement.
6. Gary Williams’ recruiting feed. “Knocked in a birdie on the 15th at Congressional. AAU coaches keep calling me — phone on silent.”
Tweets like these would keep Terps fans on the edge of their seat during the Reebok ABCD camp. (We know Maryland just landed Terrence Ross. Behave.)
7. Darrius Heyward-Bey’s training camp diary. “Looked in the mirror again this morning. Didn’t see Michael Crabtree.”
Has to be better than JaMarcus Russell’s latest dining exploits.
8. Georgetown basketball news. “ .”
Sounds about right.
9. D.C. United’s stadium plans. “United is very disappointed that secret plans for a soccer stadium in [JURISDICTION NAME HERE] have been rejected by public vote.”
These would come every few months.
10. (For good measure) Brett Favre’s retirement status. “Just got back from hunting; think I’ll play one more season. Call if you’re interested.”
If Wendi Nix and Chris Mortensen weren’t on Twitter before, they will be now. No one would dare take any one message as the final word, but at least people would know Favre’s feelings at one specific moment in time.
