Maryland left tackle Justin Gilbert has a torn ACL and is likely done for the season, coach Ralph Friedgen said Tuesday.

The redshirt sophomore was hurt in Maryland’s 31-17 loss at West Virginia. He will be replaced by redshirt sophomore R.J. Dill, who moves from right tackle. Redshirt freshman Pete DeSouza, a 6-6, 310-pounder from DeMatha, will assume Dill’s job on the right side.

The injury is a huge loss for the Terps. Gilbert had made significant strides since last season and was off to a solid start.

“Justin was really playing very well for us,” said Friedgen. “We were very pleased with him.”

Starting guard Justin Lewis, Friedgen said, is dealing with a sore knee.

Maryland was undone last season in part due to injuries to its offensive line.
