Patriots should let sleeping Rams lie

You’ve heard about trash talking. Now comes trash tweeting.

Two hours before George Mason’s 79-63 loss to VCU in the CAA semifinals, Patriots guard Andre Cornelius tweeted this gem: “The game is over don’t forget to tell VCU that’s over.”

Quickly, Rams coach Shaka Smart printed the tweet in green and gold paper and posted it on the locker room wall for his players to see. If VCU needed further motivation against a George Mason team it had lost to 71-51 on Feb. 15, Cornelius provided it.

Late in Sunday’s semifinal win, VCU guard Joey Rodriguez spotted Rams AD for athletic communications, Scott Day, on the sideline. The senior pointed and thanked him for bringing Cornelius’ message to the Rams’ attention.

“We’re friends with those guys, but we’re also Twitter friends,” Rodriguez said. “Kind of a Twitter battle before the game. That kind of thing motivates us.”
